Has anyone swaped a steering column out of anything else into their FSJ? I am going to be swaping in a manual tranny in my 79 cherokee and need a manual shift steering column. I know of a junkyard around here that has a YJ with a good one in it Dou you think this could be a possible swap? What about a CJ? What all would need to be modafied on the cherokee to get one to fit? I think it would be cool If I could somehow wire up the windshield wiper controlls on the YJ column to the wireing in the cherokee, and it would be a tilt one too. Can anyone help with this? any other ideas? Thanks

The junk yard should have a Hollander interchange manual that will tell you what other vehicles you can look at.

Why don't you just get a column from a J Truck or manual cherokee that's even the same color, then it'll wire right in?

Its a GM column and GM wiring. If it is the same length it will bolt it, wiring will plug in, no problems, if within the same year range. Nothing to it. ;)

Hmmm, how far back were they GM columns? Back into Kaiser days?

Yea, I would prefer one from a manual J-10 or cherokee, but finding onw will be the hard part. I just thought mabey there might be something else that might be eaiser to find that would bolt in with little modafacations. If the wrangler one would work I think it would be pretty cool, because it is a tilt version.

All the switches and wiring are GM.</font>[/QUOTE]That's good to know, I've got a '75 dash and manual steering column out of a J10 that's going in my '66 J200 (it's already fit w/firewall mods) and I just might have to look around for a manual column that tilted. Didn't figure I'd find one in an AMC, but there ought to be some around in a Chevy or GMC.
