I just got the plates on my 83 Wag last week. When I took it out for a test drive, it wouldn't shift into third gear. Besides sacrificing the DSPO to the Jeep Gods, does anyone have any hints on what to look for, adjust, or beat on like a spastic monkey? tongue.gif

OBTW, the tranny is a tf727. You know how it goes when you get the "CRS" disease :D

Every troubleshooting chart on automatic transmissions says to check the fluid level first.

the 727 like to varnish up when they sit for a while if fluid is full and 1-2 shift seems normal a bottle of tune up made by jones motor-purr 7 1/2 oz works real well in the 727 it has toluene and methyl ethyl ketone this stuff works real well in a auto trans in most cases it fixes late and no shifts in auto trannies if all the hard parts are good

Yeah, GSMikie, fluid is full and 1-2 shift is okay. Looks like it's time for the tune-up in a bottle first, then if that doesn't work I'll have to sign up for Autotrans 101 ;)

have you been messing with the linkage to the carbatator? when i 1st drove my new 88 home it wouldnt shift into drive until about 50mph. moving the adjustor forward to about an inch from the front most of its travel brought the shift point down to about 30mph. i got the idea from QS Mike, but all i really had to do was to make it look like the setting in my old 88. shifts great now.
