So I've got a 66 wag (orig 327 turbo 400 dana 20)
Picked up a T18 and dana 20 setup out of a 66 J truck.
Now the funny part......
Since my front dana 27 was toast I thought I might as well change out the axles also. I picked up a 77 wag for $200 bucks. Parted it out real quick ( hiding two wags is hard in my place ) Then had it hauled off.

Well it seems now that I look at the rear axle (dana 44) the darn pupkin is in the wrong place!!! It's off to the right!!
Thought this would help cheer you guys up for any mistakes you've made.

Any suggestions on what units come with the correct centered housing that I can get to match.
Width considerations etc.
Thanks.

how far offset is the rear axle? if it's only 3" or so, you can run the dana 20 (my 79 cherokee has this setup stock)

one axle tube is 12 inches longer than the other.

So it's a Quadra-track rear end....people have run them with Dana 20 t/c's with no ill effects. I guess you'll find out.

yeah.i wouldnt sweat it too much. lotsa people have run a QT offset 44 with a centered 20 and had no illl affects. the wheelbase is long enuff that unless you lift it real high, the angles arent too bad.

if it makes you feel any better, ill be doing it the opposite way-running an offset spicer 18 xfer to a centered 14 bolt rear end smile.gif

also, you wont be able to run a perfectly centered rear anywaymas it will hit your gas tank. the best you can hope for is the 4" or so slightly offset rear that came factory behind a t18/d20.

if you do want a centered rear badly enuff to modify the tank, you can use an amc 20 from an 80-85 wag/chero/GW or a 44 for from an 86(or is it 87?) and up GW.

I just removed the QT unit from my 78 and swapping in a Dana 20... I have the offset QT rear like the 79 and the D20 is center output... many run this setup... no worries for you... me....ummm... I'm a litte higher than stock and will be incorporating a CV to the rear shaft for vibe ellimination...hopefully that'll do the trick.

I am running this very set up. I have no problems now that I lowered it about 2 inches in the rear.
