Dual x-cases gives you an extra low-range. I'm thinking about taking that free Ford T-18/NP-208 combo, and mating it behind the T-176. Then it would be able to bolt up behind any "standard" 6-lug, circular pattern, 23-spline output tranny.
This would get me an extra 3 gears instead of just one (4th gear is 1:1 so it doesn't count), and the lowest extra gear is 6.32:1! I could keep relatively high axle gearing (3.31 is what I'm going for) for street use, which would put me around 2500rpms (+/- 200) @ 80 miles an hour.
My boss is a machinist at his day-job, so this should be entirely do-able
