lock/key question PLEASE HELP

The key is lost for my 81 chero... I want to pull a lock and have one made. The door locks are wasted. the only good one is in the back gate (under the little round cover) Does this the same key as the ignition?
I hope so.. It'll save me the hassle of pulling apart the steering column..

The doors and the gate used one key, the ignition was another, right?

My '89 is like that (one key for the doors and the tailgate), and one key for the ignition.

Check out www.rockauto.com. (http://www.rockauto.com.) They have the door locks (for mine-not sure about yours, but it is probably the same. Not sure if it comes with the rear cylinder for the TG) for about about $12.00, and the ignition lock/cylinder is about $14.00. The ignition cylinder is easy after pulling the wheel, the door locks look equally as easy.

At worst you would end up with 3 keys-1 ignition, 1 door lock, 1 TG lock, for about $30.00.

Yup, different keys for Ignition and doors, both my '85 and my '87 are like that, dont think they started mass production of unikeys until the 90's

another thought, check through the For Sale section, and see if anyone has a parts rig that they'd sell you the keys/locks off of..

Oh yeah, depending on the setup, there was a separate key for the gas tank cap.. :D

Hey Joe! Hold off a few days, let me see if I can find the door/Tailgate key for my wag and if I can, you can have em all. I will only end up letting em sit around and rust anyway. If I find the key, I'll Email ya and you can give me somewhere to send em.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
Tomorrow I'll pull the steering wheel and replace the ignition lock.
I mainly want to be able to turn the %^@#*&! wheel! It's currently locked solid.

Joe, I'll look for the key tommorow, I have to have it, but have no clue where its at. its no big thing, I don't need em, hell one is out already from when i pulled the glass out yesterday!
