Ok, on my father 88 GW as seen pictured as my avitar... it seems to continue to stall at low end RPM's and idle. My thoughts were that this is a carb. related issue..maybe it needs to get rebuilt...or maybe it's a gasket.. Does anyone know what this problem may be? Or do you think my guess is about right? Let me know stat..he is getting tired of it and is threatining to sell her!! I want to keep her cause she looks very good. Anyways, please help me....thanks!

Have you tried adjusting the idle and timing? It could be as simple as needing a new fuel filter. When was the last time it was replaced?Could also be a fuel pump going bad.

i don't like that...but, if i must i must...and i have no clue as to when and if any of those were replaced. It has a Jasper engine in it now with like 23K on it...so maybe those were done then. We bought it within the last 8 months...within a year anyways....but i will see what i can do about the timing..and the idle may be a lil low...THX

I bought an 89 GW w/72k miles a week ago and it does the same stall thing, if you have any luck please let me know. I just gave it a complete tuneup, timing is gonna get done tomorrow. Im getting told that it is a carb problem, exactly how bad is it to rebuild them?

Might be old dried rotton Vacuum lines leaking.

One small note on this diagram I don't like.
If you look closely at the CTO's on the front of the engine are drawn upside down. The threads(drawn up) go into the mainfold(down). Keep that in mind if using this chart.
Cheap and easy to replace.

on my 88 Waggy turned out after doing a tune up, replaceing the carb with a remanufactured one, and replacing the coil tongue.gif it was the igition box on the fender. had a short in it

hmm....i really should check that dang Ignition Modual...box w/e However I am almost positive it's the idle that is way too low... What is the procedure to reset... i know a temp fix, that did work...but want to ensure it stays good. Tell Me How..THX

Check for vacuum leak. If carb is equipt with alt. compensator, make sure there is no leakage around its gaskets. Make sure EGR valve is seated at idle.... Good Luck!
