Short of bead blasting it, is there any easy way to clean heavy aluminum oxidation from a tranny case?
I'm going to paint it but would like to get as much of this stuff off as possible first.

T clean off the oxidation, you can use White lightning, the degreaser, or Purple Power. They both work equally well, just don't get it on any painted surfaces.

If you really want to make it look nice clean it then go after it for an hour with a right angle die grinder and some roc-loc scotch pads. I forget the color coding but the color determines how course it is.
GSMIKE said they polish up real fast that way and look pretty good, make for easier cleaning next time around also.
Just an idea,

I spray it on a hot part and let it soak and then pressure wash it. This works great on any nooks and crannies too, the key though is to get it hot, real hot;O).

is there any parts or gaskets or ??? that should not have oven cleaner on them?
can i spray the whole **** motor(while hot) and later hose it off, or will serious stuff be jacked up afterwards? the reason i ask, is the **** PO put only water in the **** radiator, and it sprayed dark brown rust all over the **** motor, pluss all the oil/grease/ps fluid/dot3/etc leaking or spilled over the years.
I would like to clean it all up at once, is oven cleaner a good way to do that all at once??
