I'm sure some will guess that I have the 258 with the Carter BBD. She was running fine when the driveshaft fell out a month ago. Now that that's fixed, she won't run worth cr*p. Fine at higher RPMs. I wonder if the driveshaft hit something like a fuel line (kink) when it was bouncing (ouch!). Or it could be something altogether different. It will idle erradically until I gun it, then it will just rev up and come all the way down dead. If I drive, it stalls every time I'm coming to a stop/letting engine go to idle from higher RPMs. ARRGH! Pretty sure no vacuum leaks, at least there weren't any!

See my post April 18th--"solved my idle problem". You can search the tech forum archives. This the same problem I had. Your idle tubes are plugged with dirt, don't know if is related to driveshaft problem... Terry's article is very good. Follow the steps (easy). Be sure to stuff a rag in the carb throat to prevent dropping screws into the engine. (Take them out again. :D ) Took me about an hour.

I would say a good carb cleaning would be good, also check your throttle linkage.
