Ok, snapped the carb mount brackets. (or whatever it's called where the mounting nuts screw down on) They was very loose so I tightend them (too much). Well, there was a spacer between the carb and the manifold (have no idea why) so over tightening caused some snapage. My question is, since I need a new carb, is a motor craft 2150 a motorcraft 2150? I mean, if I go to the salvage and pull one off a later model Jeep, will I still be able to use it? Plus I've noticed alot of fords use them too. Also, I'd like to just go to a 4bbl, any sudgetions? I really want to get this fixed.
Thanks In Advance,
J

I would send you mine since I'm about to take it off for my engine rebuild. I will be upgrading to an edelbrock 2131 mani and edelbrock 1406 carb (you can buy it in a package with lifters and a camshaft, what a sweet deal). I would send you mine, but I cracked a mounting tab on the base of mine as well, from overtightening (it may be fixable, I'll have to take a close look). There are many options when upgrading or going new. Edelbrock, Quadrajet, Holley, or reman.
Edelbrock is pretty much a direct bolt on swap and will prolly work right out of the box, with little or no tuning.
Quadrajet's have a reputation for being very hard to tune and are a little more expensive than the rest.
Holley's are notorious for not staying in tune 85% of the time and a truelly built for street and strip, not for anything offroad. They require heavy first time tuning and need a close eye kept on them after that. I could recommend youbuy this one since it will be helping out my local economy :D
A reman: well, you're pretty much on your own. About half of the come back to the store for variable reasons. Mostly cause they suck. It really is a crapshoot. IIRC, the 2150 had atleast three variable additional model numbers tacked on to the end. I think the one on my rig is a 2150-3? I don't know how this would effect swapability from other trucks. I would think that they would be the same. But you reaaly need to keep an eye out for fuel leaks and huge vacuume leaks (AMHIK).

Sounds like good info. I found a brand new eldenbrock at the junk yard on an olds. There was a number on it, 1406-2049. Does that mean it's a 1406 model? And is the 2049 like a production #? All I know is I can get it for $100, is that worth it? Plus, I'm guessing it would be a waste to have a 4bbl on a 2bbl manifold.
A: Can i use any manifold off of a 360?
B: What do I look for in matching up a manifold to my jeep? Will the olds one work? I'd rather get a yard manifold cause there like less than $50.
Thanks Again,
Jay

The edelbrock mani for our rigs is the #2131. To my knowledge, it's the only wone that will fit and no others. You can use a 4v off of a 304, 360, or 401 from an amc engine, but it has a spreadbore pattern whils't the edelbrock has a squarebore pattern. That denotes having to use an adapter. Not very hard to come by or expensive.
