I removed my driveshafts today to have them rebuilt. :D The question is: with no shafts attached, how much "play" should there be in the outputs of the t-case when they are turned by hand? (I have an '88 GW, so it's the NP229 AFAIK.) And same question for the axle inputs. Thanks! smile.gif

There is some play, when turning back and forth. 1/4" of travel maybe. Should be no up and down play though.

Is between 1/8-1/4 of a full turn too much? (on the t-case) I'm thinking a little too much. How do you tighten this up?

Sounds normal to me. There is no way to adjust it anyhow, except by total rebuild. New they have slack in them.

Thanks!! I won't worry about it then. :D Hopefully the rebuilt driveshafts will solve my "unknown" vibration problem...

Jbreak- Referring to your sig, you must have a sweet Grand Wagoneer!

Up to a 1/4 turn of slack is normal. More than that and you'd need to replace the chain. From what you saying you should have no worries at all.

Thanks Andrew!
Big Bad Jon - The GW is pretty good. The usual leaks here and there, and in need of paint, but it's running good at the moment (knock on fake woodgrain!) Hope to get some pics and make an avatar soon. :D
