I have to replace the brake line (rusted out) on my 87 GW and have been unable to find one that is the same length (app 10-12 feet). Is there any problem with connecting and bending two smaller length lines to replace the original?

try to keep them short as possible. ive heard of panic stops that will straighten them out. i trust youre talking about the main line going from the mastercylinder to the rear end. you are gonna need a special ford fitting to fit the mas/cyl. get a tubing bender, short money, to help you make the bends.

That's what I've done on mine (actually on a couple of my cars, in front and back). Some place does sell the line in bulk (25' in a coil- JCW, maybe?), but I've just used a union between the lines and they've held fine. Clamp the tubing in place, though, so it isn't vibrating all over the place; that might loosen the joint up over time.

I just did this job on my '90 GW this weekend and I had to replace the same line on my '86 about 4 years ago. The line to the rear brakes rusts out right near the fuel tank. Here's what you need to do. Go to parts store and buy two 60" sections of 1/4" brake line and one compression type fitting to join them in the middle. One thing you need from the old line is the larger threaded end up front, these are not commonly available in the larger thread. Cut the flare end off one line discard the standard fittings and reuse the large threaded fitting, hopefully you didn't mangle the threads too bad. Run the other line forward from the hose fitting above the axle. Use care bending the line so that you don't kink it, it is fairly easy to bend by hand. Route the line along the inside edge of the fuel tank. It's not worth the hastle to remove the fuel tank to run the line along the frame as original. Now cut the ends and join them in the center with the compression fitting. Secure with some tie straps and your good to go. The old fitting into the rear brake hose is very difficult, plan on useing vise grips on the line fitting.
