i've never seen an intake designed like this before... what do the "dual ports" do?

It looks like a conventional dual plane manifold except that it has round ports (of two different sizes?) instead of a standard plenum divider.

It's a quadrajet manifold. It looks like somebody put an adapter for a Holley on it. I was going to order one from Summit, I wish I had seen that before it sold, I would have bought it.
