I've got my front end apart. Ready to install degree shims. Have accuately measured the spring perches. They are both the same height (or drop if you want to think of it that way since its spring under axle). The steering damper bracket is 3/16" thick. As we know, the bracket fits between the spring pack and the non-diff side perch.
So what I would like to know is, did the factory use a 3/16" spacer on the diff perch to keep both perches level?
It probably doesn't make much difference, but I would like to know what the factory did. When I last posted this question. There was one yes and one no. So for anyone whos got a free minute can you look and see if you have a spacer between the spring pack and perch on the diff side?
Thanks,
Dave
I was the Yes - 1970 Wagoneer - Dana 27 passenger side drop.

And the great spacer debate rages on! Anyone with a '76-'78 rig want to peak underneath? Please.

Dave _S,
I don't think it's a debate, most are probably not there. If you wany one, email me your address and the dimensions (2.5" x something" x 3/16") and the hole size and I'll CNC cut you one next week (22nd).
I really don't think you could ever see a 3/16" difference if you tried.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am convinced. I don't think the factory used a spacer. At least not on the '76-'78 era trucks. So, I didn't use one either.

i have disassembled a few FSJs. mostly 77 and newer, mostly wag/cheros with 2 j20s and 1 j10.none have had the spacer on the right side(including my 85 GW and an 81 chero) except for one we just took the axles out of today. its the only pre 77 rig weve parted, and it did have a spacer on the passenger side.funny to see this post, cause i looked at that spacer and said "hey, ive never seen that before"
ive never been happy with the stabilizer-mounting-plate-under-the-perch method,as it cuts the amt of spring pin that goes into the perch at least in half,if not more. someday im gonna make another mount so that py driver side perch can sit right on the leaf spring...

I got these rather unique washers from Long Beach Spring and Forge (562-427-3336) in Long Beach, California. They were about .125 thick. The guy charged me a six pack of beer for four washers. Seriously, I said how much and he said how about a six pack. I said works for me. Me:What kind of beer do you drink. Him: Bud Lite. He gave me the washers I and drove off and returned with the beer.
