TO STOP RUST IN MY DOORS...I WOULD DO THIS,FROM TIME TO TIME....REMOVIE THE DOOR PANAL.. ..AND WITH THE GLASS UP......... SPRAY THE INSIDE WITH USED MOTOR OIL FROM AN OIL CHANGE....I USED A 3M UNDER COAT GUN......THE KIND WITH THE SCREW ON CAN...... I WOULD FILL IT WITH OIL AN SPRAY AWAY...GUESS WHAT!!!! THAT OIL GETS IN THE PINCH WELDS AND STOPS YOUR DOORS FROM RUSTING OUT..................ONE THING MORE....INLARGE YOUR DRAIN HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF YOUR DOORS..... SO!!!!! YOU GET OIL ON YOUR DOOR JAMS AND ROCKERS WIPE IT OFF....BETTER THAN RUST...RIGHT!!!....ME!!!

Excelent Idea
I also driled a hole in the very corner of my fender where it bends in. One side started rusting and it looked like there was a little pocket I driled through it and it seemed to slow it down.

CAREFUL34...HI!!!...GO TO YOUR AUTO PARTS STORE AND ASK THEM TO LOOK IN THE 3M CATALOG FOR A UNDERCOAT GUN THAT IS USED FOR SPRAYING....."RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATING"...3M MAKES THE UNDERCOATING TOO....IT COMES IN A CAN WITH A SCREW ON LID...... I WOULD FILL THE EMPTY CAN WITH OTHER TYPES LIQUID I WANTED TO SPRAY....HOPE THIS HELPS.....GARY ;)

GRAHAM!!.............I THINK THE SMELL IS THE SAME AS....... WHEN THE NEW CAR DEALER DRILLS F ING HOLES IN THE DOORS OF YOUR NEW $30,000 RIDE AND SPRAYS "RUST PROOFING" INSIDE... ....FOR AN EXTRA $500.00........ AND IF YOUR MOTOR OIL IS BURNT YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT MORE!!!!...

I have seen a write-up in an engineering journal on this.
It was not actually favorable.
The used oil actually made the corrosion faster in the test.
The catch here is that the oil they tested was fairly acidic. How acidic, I don't know. They did not do a clean motor oil, so there is nothing to compare to. They were just testing common methods people use.

NOGRAIN...HI!!!THIS I CAN TELL YOU......THE ONE BODY SHOP I WORKED THERE WAS 36 PLY 4DR SDN THAT SET OUTSIDE FOR OVER 15 YEARS...THE OWNERS CAR ....ONE OF THEM DEALS...GOING TO REBUILD BUT!!! NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT... JUST THE BODY,BAD SHAPE...RUSTED OUT...FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER. ....WHEN YOU CHANGED YOUR OIL YOU WOULD HAVE TO POUR IT ON IT. ...OR HE WOULD KILL YOU!!!WELL NOT "KILL" YOU...RAIN, SNOW,SUN, ...GUESS WHAT..IT STOPED RUSTING NOW THE EPA WOULD NOT THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA....BUT IT STOPED RUSTING.....EVER WORK ON A OLD CAR AND WERE THE OIL WAS BLOWING BACK FROM THE ENGINE...AND THERE WAS RUST EVERYWERE BUT WHERE THE ENGINE OIL WAS STICKING...IT'S LIKE NEW UNDER THERE...JUST ADDING TWO MORE CENTS....ME!!! smile.gif smile.gif

The front half of my frame does not have a single spot of rust on it. Over the years, minor oil and tranny fluid leaks have preserved it pretty well.
Well, I think ill stick to fertilizing my lawn smile.gif

Just remember:
one (1) litre used engine oil destroys
million (1 000 000) litres groundwater!

Hi:
REMEMBER that oil floats on top of water, so be sure the area where you pour motor oil has a drain at all low places so that it will drip out..... not puddle!!!!!
If there is no drain, water will get under the oil and actually accelerate the rusting.
