So I went to a swap meet a few weeks ago, and saw a guy selling seats. I've been looking for good seats for my J for a long time, and came across some Mustang seats that looked like they would be a really close match - narrow, short seat, and high back to clear the cab lip. It just so happens I saw a web site (http://www.jeepaholics.com/tech/mustangseats/mustangseats.htm) about CJ's using late-model Mustangs seats as a direct replacement to stock (if you swap out the bracket) Anyone tried this in an FSJ or know of a better option?

Mustang seats are almost a direct bolt in requiring just minor mods. Escort seats are another choice. Other Ford seats can be made to work with a little work as I have 98 lincoln towne car seats in my wag and 86 taurus power seats in my CJ.

They really make for a nice ride off road and I got 4 right hand manual leather seats and a center console free. I spent about 2 hours making them fit the Wag brackets and then bolted them in. The place I got them from was a Limo factory and they scrapped the rt frt seats and console so they still had the factory care tags and plastic on them.

I put some real nice stang (I think it was 87) seats in my jeep, nice side/knee bolsters... And power lumbar... We could have elongated one of the holes in the seat brackets to bolt the stang sliders on... But decided it was way faster/easier to just weld them on smile.gif

Now my question would be, where do you get an 80amp breaker for that power lumbar... And how do you wire it in

Why would you need an 80 amp breaker? I used an inline fuse ( 20 amp ) on mine. It works the 6 way seat, the lumbar, and the side bolsters just fine.

I had seats from a mid 80's stang in my international scout, and they required that one hole be redrilled to fit the tracks to the bases. They are a nice design- flat base area, and studs that are easy to locate/relocate. i have a set of dodge cravan seats that are going into my other wag onto late model gw power bases, and they measure out pretty good also.

To put Escort seats it is about 5 mins work with a drill. The power lumbar actually only pulls 3 amps the seat track motors pull more but the max breaker would be a 30 amp

So what's the latest model seat that will work? I've got a line on some like new GT seats from a '95 for $100 for example.

Is the a place to get the seat brakets them selves? I have a bench seat in poor shape (The spring sticking me in the bett is getting old.) I've called a bunch of junkyards but FSJ are hard to find let alone with buckets.

Thats bad, that you can't find FSJ seats where you are, here in Spokane WA I saw four GW'S in the junk yards with electric bucket seats in good shape for $15 a piece. We have a good supply of Wags and Cherokee's in the junk yards here. I picked up a perfect Rhino grille the other day for $35, they don't seem to know what the stuff is worth, I guess.

We Sutherners don't take our FSJ's to the yard, we go bankrupt keepin' 'em on the road. :D I'd say, too, the Northwest climate would yield more than a few nice interiors in rusty trucks that didn't make it quite to their sunset years...
Find me nice set of buckets in beige for $15 and I'll make it worth your while!
