i had the factory one in my ol 80 cherokee never seen the glass part p.o. busted it just the little peices it was in ...ohh anyway it was one where the whole thing popped up in the back or you could take it out of the frame ,i just took the frame out and covered the hole with a thick peice of sheet metal and adhisive caulk so i wouldn't have to drill holes ...held pretty good n.o.(next owner) never called me and cused me so i guess it's still working for him ...lol

Hey
I've primarily seen the kind where you simply pop it up. The sliding electric kind is wicked expensive. I would check out JCW though, they seem to have all that stuff. It comes in various sizes.

I only have one thing to add and I know it is common sense. In a previous life I installed them. If you don't do this job carefully, you are asking for leaks. You have to shear out metal very slowly to keep from causing wrinkles around the edges of the hole that make this job a bit harder than it has to be.
OH, make sure and paint the edges of the hole to keep it from rusting.
Somehow COMMOM SENSE isn't so common these days.

I have one, I have one....

My chero has the pop-up kind that also can be removed. Its nice and helps when its hot out (no A/C)...It also works welll if you lock your keys in the car.

I actually pulled one out of the '79 Limited I parted last year; it was the kind with two side-by-side panels that popped-up, and could be removed entirely.

I plan on installing it in my Cherokee; toward that end, I actually cut out the roof-panel around the sunroof, so when I disassemble it, I'll have a handy template for installing it.

I found one in jc whitney. It pops up and then the glass part comes off entirely. Around 160.00 i think. I dont think i will put it in though. If i mess up"like i usually do" than it will be messed up for good. I will leave the job to one of the local body shops.

I have an aftermarket sunroof which was installed by a previous owner. It looks like a typical J.C. Whitney item. Its good on hot days. It leaks on rainy days.

I would point out that our FSJ's have a corrugated roof and effectively sealing the after market sunroof is very difficult around the corrugations. We don't get much rain in So. Cal. so the occasional leaks are not a big deal, but if you live in someplace like Seattle, I think I would pass on the aftermarket sunroof idea.

well maybe it was how it was put in. I will try to find some people that have had them put in here at one of the local body shops and see how their doing. Maybe the previous owner didnt know what he was doing. Im sure theres a couple possibilities for your leaking sunroof.
1. not installed correct or sealed as good as it could have been
2.jc whitney sells cheap sunroofs
3. the corrugated roof
-----i noticed a place here in town that specialises them. they should know what their doin. think i should get one from the jeep dealer?
