A friend wants to get a 304 from a Scout to put in his Jeep.Is this an AMC or did IH have their own 304? I know nothing about IH.,and not much about Jeep either but I`m catching on.

IH has their own 304. The 4 cyl, 304, 345, 392 are all based on the same block. It's big heavy and will last almost forever. Loads of torque at low RPM.

The I.H. 304 while sharing the same displacement is a whole different animal from the amc 304. Kinda like the difference between a ford, chrysler and amc 360, all different breeds sharing the same displacement.
Now,that being said, anything is possible but he'd likely need the entire drivetrain from the scout also.

i had a scout 2 with a 345. you think parts are hard to find for an amc---ha!!the only upside is the fact that nearly every ihc heavy duty truck for 20 years used this motor family. i wouldnt go thru the trouble. you could swap a sbc for a lot less, and have a lot better deal.

A 304 IHC motor is huge. You guys think an AMC intake is heavy, try lifting one off a IHC motor.
