Hi all,
I think Big Red needs a new charcoal canister (heavy fuel smell, poor idle, etc. plus it is the original canister...) Can I get a new one at an auto parts store or do I have to go through the dealer? Thanks in advance.

Do a quick search on charcoal...
There was a discussion a month back or so, on rebuilding yours (supplies to do it are available at your local pet store).

I am also interested in this. I did the search and did not come up with rebuild instructions. Could it be that they were in the Gen area.

Remember reading that post, sounded easy. Buy a pound of activated charcoal, stuff it in, replace filter paper with one made out of a coffee filter. R&R hoses and filter.
Anyone else? Sounded like a easy project.

I also remember that thread, but it mentioned something about getting a specific kind of filter, maybe not avaialble at the pet store...to ensure that none of the canister contents, i.e. pieces of charcoal make thier way into the engine...
anybody have any other thoughts?

Your parts store can get the filter pad for about $3. Make sure the purge valve is working, too...
