So on my 88 Grand Wag, I have 2.73 gear ratio. How much lower can I go and still retain the same diff carrier? If I go to 31's I will wanna regear to like 3.19 would these fit on the stock carrier?.. Then when I eventually get to running 33's It will be a givin that I will replace that stuff as I would be putting in lockers and such at that point..

3.73 is as low as you can go with the stock carriers.

Jason.... try some gear calculators to play with the R&P's and RPM's to know where you sit with useability if you start changing tire size. Can give you a good idea for what you might want. This is one of many...www.4lo.com

Hehehe so I actuall was on that 4lo.com site before I posted this subject.. so then I can put 3.19's on my stock carriers? thats perfect. cause my front and rear axles are pretty cr*pped out. and soon I will have a NP208 in place of my really tired 229. but im still not using 4wheel till my axles especially my bad front are fixed. So thats perfect. I can go to 3.19's at the same time i have the axles fixed and not have to get all the guts\carriers replaced, And throw some 31's under there. cool

Not exactly Jason.... The calc gives your "exact" ratio but you need to look up the specific ratio in R&P that is made for the Dana 44 that is closest to what the calc says... sounds like a 3:31 (pretty sure) would be what you are looking for. I say this cuz it's always best to go a little lower if you do any trails at all. Go here... http://www.thinkjeep.com/prodmain/index45.html Find "ring and Pinion" in the left column and look at your specific range under your Dana 44....by the way, these are the best prices I have found http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/wink.gif

Ok here is where I was basing that info from.. on the site.. www.4lo.com (http://www.4lo.com) the calculator that is called "tire change". If you put in new tire size 31, old tire size 28.9(235\75\15), current gear ratio, 2.73. and hit calculate, it shows 2.93 as the equiv.. and 3.19 as a lower geared option.. thats where i got that info.. try it..
hmm. yeah by that site that you just posted. my closest option to 3.19 would be 3.23 for my dana 44's.. i see what ya mean.. have to use what is available
