Saw this on Ebay. Has anyone ever tried installing one of these, or at least had experience with them to know if this would be feasible.

If it's like any other vehicle, you better get a section of the roof with it. The roof will have welded in reinforcements that the assembly bolts to. I know my 86 has no provision for a sunroof. I just installed a new headliner. You'd have to splice in the roof section. Hope this helps.

You do not have to splice in a roof section. My 77 had that exact sunroof installed in by someone who didn't know what they were doing. It was leaking badly and they wound up covering it up with a large piece of galvanized steel and some bondo. But, I wanted a sunroof so I went and repaired their error and here is what I did.

First off, when you install a sunroof after the factory you need to properly support it. They used a couple of braces near the rear of the sun roof that were pop riveted to the frame. This caused the sunroof to sag forward, weaken the roof around it, and davelop rust spoth which was where the leaking was coming from. I corrected that by welding a new frame around the existing one, raising the roof a bit, and welding on new supports at the front portion of the assembly to give it the strength it needed. I can support all of my 215 lbs on that structure. The pop rivets they used were holding fine but I like welds better.

Second, make sure the weep holes on the corners of the sunroof frame go through plastic tubing all the way through the windshield stanchions and out the bottom somewhere clear of the frame. They screwed this up too and now I have rust holed at the bottom of mt windshield stanchion and at the lowere corner of the driver's side door frame.

I tore out all the electronics as they were taost anyways so mine doesnt even open. But, if you do it right, you can have a nice sunroof. If not, be prepared to fix your error in about ten years.

Some day, I will have a new sunroof installed by a professional. Doing it yourself is too much of an unnecessary headache for me but best of luck to you.
