I know I know I should put this to rest but... why is it that half of you bad mouth the 219 and say its a fake QT I know that the bw was first but is that 219 just as good?
Also I was looking in a book and I saw TH400 bolt to chevy NP 208...would that sound right? And is it the same np208?

th400 to np208? only in a gm
JEEP quit using the th400 in 80 or 81, the same year they went to the 208 so the jeep bolt patterned th400 never met the 208 face to face. I'm not sure about gm 4wd setups, i hate gm...the only good thing they did, as far as i'm concerned, is make one of the most bullet proof auto trannies ever! that and not have a stupid mechanical kick-down linkage.

Well, us BW QT folks feel picked-on, what with the little-jeepers calling them quadrajunks and magazines advising people to avoid them like the plague, so we tend to play up their benefits, such as the beefiest chain in any chain-driven case and the ability to lock up the center differential for a true part-time mode.
Along the way, I'm sure some disparaging comments are made about Jeep's "other" QT as not being a "real" case. Acutally, though, the case does have the advantage of the (admittedly-smaller) chain only powering the front wheels, so it's less likely to stretch, parts are still available for this box, and there's just a good old lever to get into 4Hi-lock, rather than a hit-or-miss vacuum E-drive to worry about.
Operationally, I imagine you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

yes,a 219 with a good viscuous coupling also does a very good job differentiating the front and rear wheels. for whatever its worth,i wheeled a 219 for a couple years-first in my amc eagle, then in the GW,and it actually put up with the abuse pretty well. i removed it when the chain started makin noise, and im sure i could have put a chain in it and continue to wheel it,but instead i installed a 207,which held up for a year or so until it started popping out of reverse in 4lo,then tried to install a 208 that wouldnt shift. at that point i decided to stop messing with aluminum chain drive cases.
a big advantage of the BW QT is the availabliliy of the part tie kit, which is not available for a 219. on a stock QT thats equipped with low range, you have a full time 4lo,which is also kinda cool in my book-not to worry so much about driveline bind. i think full time low is almost as cool as 2lo(almost-not quite http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif )
a big advantage of the 219 is the single no-fuss lever,as bob mentioned. another big advantage is the swapability of new process cases. one could easily replace a 219 with a 207,208,228/229,231,241,242,247 or a 249. with the bw qt youre pretty much stuck with that unless you get creative swapping factory tailshafts and adapters,or buy an aftermarket kit.
but a properly maintained qt or 219 should hold up to moderate abuse,so hope this clears it up some for ya.
on the gm 208- gm uses a 32 spline input. you could prolly install the gm input gear into a jeep case, and be able to keep your driver side diff,if you were contemplating a gm engine/tranny swap. the gm 208s also used a slip rear yoke instead of a fixed rear yoke, but yes, other than those things, its basically the same case.
you can also get a 700r with a 208.hmmm. maybe a TPI with an overdrive for good fuel consumption http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Also the 219 has an admirable low range of 2.61:1 or something. I agree with Bob in that its nice theres no vaccum-crap to wonder about. My friend with a '84 xj has to take a vaccum gauge with him so he can check his 4 wheel drive - what a PITA!

Hey all since we are on the topic of 219's I just so happen to have to take mine apart to seal up the flowing fluid. Any experienced members who have done this willing to give me any probs or clues to look out for?

why not go to a 2wd 727 or T400 which ever you prefer and put in a divorced Ford D24? Then you will get a heavy duty gear to gear case and keep your drivers side diff.

take it apart straight up and down, with the rear yoke pointing straight up in the air. in this manner, youll be able toget the yoke off and seperate the case halves without disturbing all the little sticks(needle bearings) let me tell you,the little sticks are a big PITA if you take it apart horizontally and they all fall out.
