I have a remanufactured engine, and carb, with only about 3000 miles on them. My battery and alternator are less than a year old. It's starting to get cold around here(35-45 degrees). And now Im having trouble. It takes about 5 pumps for the jeep to start without dieng, anything less it runs for a second then starts shaking and dies. After I get it running I let it sit for about 3 minutes. When I put it in drive its fine. But when I drive away and then stop at a red light the charge drops way down into the red, even though its idleing at the proper speed, about 10 seconds after that it dies. Also, it has started to backfire. It takes about 15 minutes of driving for this to go away. Help me please.

I don’t have experience with that ‘late model’( MC-2150-?)carburetor. Your problem is probably the choke system needs setting and the heat riser may not be operating correctly. Read the link below…it will tell you about the choke… The backfiring may blow the power valve… :(

I don't know much about carbs but that sounds like some form of carb problem if I've ever heard one. I had a carter 2150 on my 85 wag and I was missing some stoppers that popped over the adjustment screws to keep them from moving. Every couple of months I had to readjust my carb cause it would get horribly out of adjustment and start blowing smoke and it wouldn't idle right especially when cold.
keep in mind though I needed a rebuild in a bad way so don't get discouraged, I've heard some people swear by the carter 2150.

Every fall this seems to happen to a couple of fsj'ers. On the passenger side of the carb there are is a choke housing with three screws. mark the original location. Then turn the housing a little to the right tighten the screws and try it out. if that helps but dosent solve the problem turn it a little more. if that dosent work go the other way past the original mark. In the spring when it warms up you'll have to go back to the original setting. If you read the tech article from Don S reply go to the bottom of the article and then up to the choke pull off section.
If all else fails I recomend the carb and manifold swap or a TBI.

Have you checked your EGR and vacuum system? I was having a similar problem with a recent engine rebuild; difficult cold starts (even in much warmer temps) running poorly, etc. I found that my EGR valve didn't have a line run to it at all. At the same time I replaced the vacuum lines I also did a TFI ignition upgrade as outlined here:
Gary Boyd Ignition Upgrade Posting (http://www.ifsja.org/tech/electrical/ignitionupgrade.shtml)
so I'm not sure how much that contributed to correcting the problem. Either way, it starts on the first turn and runs much better.
