Alright, she's getting fuel. If I pump fuel, she starts, if I try to give it fuel after that to keep 'er going, she develops a small flame in the carb that I quikly put out by closeing the choke, no back fire though. Any ideas?

Just a guess, but sounds like valves not closing on power stroke. Could be valve timing, burned valves, broken valve spring or possibly ign. timing out badly.

Any body else got an idea?

She didn't do any of this with the old 2150 carb and manifold. I'm just wondering if i did something wrong putting this new mani and carb (4350) on. I pump, she races, then cuts off. And like I said, if I try to gas 'er to stay runing, she catches fire. Could it be my carb gaskets? i didn't put any sealer on them when I redid the carb,. Or could I have monked something up in the carb rebuild?

There is no sealant required on carb gaskets so I think you did that just fine.

You must be out on timing, have you checked?

Haven't checked 'cause I can't get er to stay going to check. She wasn't out of time before the project though. would the 4bbl upgraded through that out of whack?

I must admit I havent worked on an AMC V8, but I assumed you would pull the distributor to do the job, or possibly pull the cap and wires off. If the wires are put on incorrectly it could do the same thing.

Sorry for my ignorance of the AMC V8 but I run the 6 banger.

I pretty sure I adjusted them right, but in case I didn't, could the mtering rods or vacuum piston set ups have anything to do with it?

Since it ran okay before you started, I gotta say it's something in the install. It sounds like a BAD vacuum leak.

Yup that is what I think as well as Joe said.
quote:
Since it ran okay before you started, I gotta say it's something in the install. It sounds like a BAD vacuum leak.

Now that it runs, have you checked the timing?

No mater how bad the vac. leak it shouldn't fire back thru the carb.

Glad to hear you got it goin'
