I'm in the process of changing my 1974 258 6cyl 1 bbl to a 2 bbl manifold. Info I get here says I need a corresponding exhaust manifold to go with it, but every junkyard I check says all exhaust manifolds untill 1979 are all the same?!?!?!?! I dont really mind spending a few extra dollars for the exhaust manifold as well BUT the one I have is good and every $$$ I can save is just more $$$ for tires and other parts!

there are different styles I don't know the years but you do need to match them up. One style bolts together with 4 bolts and the othe style has a tube connecting them.

The manifold changed in 1980, after which the intake was aluminum and an EGR tube connected the intake to the exhaust manifold (unless you installed the "EGR Delete" option like I did).

Another issue is the thickness of the flanges that mount to the head, which were also changed in 1980. So you need to find both an intake an exhaust manifold from 1979-earlier. eBay's loaded with them.

Yes, if you keep an older iron 2bbl intake you can keep the old exhaust manifold. If you go to a newer aluminum 2bbl then you need to get a newer exhaust manifold.

Ah-ha, so thats how it works. So I guess i can buy the 2 bbl manifold that I found and keep my old exhaust. Great news. Thanks for the info!

Cecil14, I noticed you have a t-5 in your j10, is that the light duty tranny with overdrive? If so how do you like it and how durable are they? Will it stand up to a 258 with 33's and 4.11 gears?

Another trick I just learned, which actually works, is to use a thin layer of Copper Permatex around the intake ports on the head, and also on both sides of the intake gasket. I had many headaches with vacuum leaks before, and this trick seems to have solved that problem.

So far the T-5 isn't bad. Mine is out of a CJ, and I just got it in so I haven't had a whole lot of experience with it so far. It works, my 3/4 syncro is gone but it's not bad so far. Not sure it'll take a whole lot of abuse though, I really just plan on driving this one.

I've got a spare one lying around if you want it it's a pre 80 but has the 4 bolt pattern for the carb so you can put a 2bbl on it

76Cherokee Thats what I'm looking for, a pre-1980 with the 4 bolt pattern, how much you want for it? and how much you think it weighs? It would be shipped to zip code 98801. I think my old 1bbl manifold only weighs about 20 lbs or so, I dont imagine a 2 bbl one would weigh much more, if any. The one I found at a junkyard here is $50 plus tax so if you want less than that (plus shipping) I'll take it. Let me know!

Thanks 76Cherokee. I need to get this thing back on the road. It's killing me seeing it sit there not running. But on the bright side it did get allocated the garage so my road pig Chrysler and the old ladys car have to sit outside and look in envy at the J10 sitting high, dry and warm in the garage!! LEt me know.............
