General question. My 1977 Chero has a Prestolite distributor. I thought with that system that Jeep put Delco alternators with interal voltage regulators. For some odd reason mine has an external voltage regulator. Does anyone else have a system like this or is this a Motorcraft alternator with a Prestolite distributor?

77's came two ways depending on what motor you have. The 258 sixes came with a Delco alt w/internal regulator and the 360/401's came with a Motorcraft alt w/external regulator.

My '77 Chero is the same. Prestolite distributor, Motorcraft alternator with external regulator. According to the '77 TSM this is how the V8's came from the factory.

my '74 wag. had a similiar set-up, and i converted it to the '75 and l8er wag style, which uses a delco alt. and no volt. reg. at all. i just followed the chiltons diagrams and made use of my multi-meter to make sure it was charging properly...just some info for you guys
