Man I got my #60 jets in yesterday and put them in the holley 600 last night (had 65's in it) It runs a lot better but still belches black smoke if you hammer down on it. Float levels have been checked and re-checked and checked again. Should I got with yet even smaller jets??? I am at my wits end with this thing. Can my timing have an effect on how rich the exhaust is? Please help!!!
I have for the most part the same combo.Main difference still run the motorcraft carb.Down to 51's for jets.

4 barrel or 2?? I was curious as to how small is too small for jets. I don't want to end up crossing the line where I loose performance trying to get it leaned out.

When you say 'hammer down on it' I'm assuming pedal to the floor. If its a vac secondary holley sounds like your secondaries are opening to soon. That can be adjusted with a stiffer secondary spring. There are no jets to change out in the secondaries on a vac secondary holley, only a fixed metering plate. Mine does this to when I 'get on it' in high gear, low rpms. I'm not too worried about it.

does it also if I am sitting at idle and just rev it a little, or take off from a stop.

I'm not a real carb expert, but I'm thinking the accelerator pump nozzle needs to be a smaller size. If it's fine at idle, and fine at cruise, but rich at go pedal, isn't that when the pump squirts a little gas down the carb??

not jets... accelerator pump camp.. you should use 65's or 67's..try the "white pump cam".. buy the assortment that's what i got works good then go from there
