I checked with Draw Tite about their part number 41010 J Truck hitch (listed on a recent for sale post), it is unfortunately no longer available. I imagine the same case from Hidden Hitch, although I have not checked with them. I am thinking about asking Sterling if they would be interested in making a run of J Truck hitches if there is enough interest. I probably should have gotten one on my bumper they made for me but I didn't thinking I could get a class IV from the after market. So much for planning! Let me know if you have any interest.

it doesn't seam it would be to hard to get a good used one from either this board or a scrape yard.

Most of the ones I have seen have been for the Wagoneer or Cherokee and do not fit the J Truck. Maybe there are some out there but over the last week or so the requests for them have gone unanswered.

I've been keeping an eye out for one too. Uhaul disc. theirs too. The only thing I've seen close is a universal fit from Wally World. I'm not too keen on anything labeled as "universal fit". Other than that a custom is the way to go. I plan on welding one together when I get the time.

Anyone ever tried Reese? I've got one on my XJ. It's the only hitch I would ever install on a vehicle. Made in good old Indiana of course! :D
TSC (Tractor Supply Company) and Quality Farm & Fleet carried them if they still exist where you live. The Walmarts around here also carry them...but good luck with any special ordering.
I just checked their website and they do list Wagoneer and Cherokee in their applications for class III/IV hitches. You will probalby just have to tell them a newer year if you have an old rig. Same dimensions anyways.

Naw Hump the frame's wider in the rear on a truck. Wag/Chero hitches won't work :(

Saw a "universal fit" class IV hitch that had been mounted on a J10. When the guy got it on and lined everything up, he welded the pee-pee out of the adjustable arms instead of having the bolts hold things in place. He towed a large boat with it and never had any problems.

Hump:
Sorry I tried Reese Hitch and no go! Here is part of the conversation:
Q:Do you make a hitch that fits a Jeep J Series Pickup truck?
A: What kind of truck? J what? Who made that?
My Response: Jeep made them through 1988.
Reese Saleman: Oh we wouldn't make anything for something like that, that old.
My Response: But you do make them for the older Full Size Wagoneers and Cherokees?
Reese Salesman: Oh yes we have those.
My response: OK thanks.
What a dweeb! J Trucks just don't get any respect!
Hump just so you know I grew up in IN and most of my family still lives there.

I talked to Sterling today concerning making some hitches for J Trucks. It could be done but Wade's suggestion was to go with the generic hitch setup, as some here have suggested. It would be much cheaper and would server the purpose. I would suggest that anyone ordering a bumper from Sterling do wo with the hitch option, I wish I had!

One from a Mitsubishi Montero Sport will fit. Sits in a lil deep but nothing a longer ball mount wouldnt take care of. This was done by another member of a list to their J truck. Width was excellent. It is the round tube type though, so it might not match the lines of the truck like a square tube one would.

Allen -
The bar off the Montero - Is that a factory part, or an aftermarket part?
Or does it even matter?
