Some time back I saw a link with TFI upgrade instructions and in particular, someone's homemade bracket for the coil. I have done several searches and it appears that some of the old links are gone. Can anyone steer me to the page with the bracket or tell me what it ought to look like?

I just made using the picture from irbob's website at

http://fsjeep.homestead.com/TFI_Upgade.html

It's towards the end of the parapgraph entitled coil. You just use the stock part fo the bracket that mounts to the intake manifold. Just turn it around cut the corners off so the TFI can fit it and mount it in the same hole...works great! I love the upgrade and noticed a big difference. Change the plugs and gap them at .045 change the spark plug wires too. Good luck!

I used 2 "L" Brackets that I picked up at lowes and bolted it to the fire wall.

Thanks! I knew I had seen that somewhere. I see that there is a capacitor in the pics. My '91 does not have one (as far as I know it was stock without it). Do I need to add it?

As far as I know, the capacitor is just to prevent feedback on your radio. I had one on mine stock, so I hooked it up. Other people have posted that they just capped that extra wire on the TFI pigtail for future use with a tach. If I were you I'd just cap it and see what happens. Maybe your 91 has a capacitor somewhere else? You can always get one from a salvage yard for cheap $ if you get some feedback through your radio.

Thanks. Mine doesn't even have the pigtail so I guess I am ok. I have modified the bracket similar to irbob's. I haven't found a source for a plug but will use some quick connects and tape for now.

-joe: if you are out there...I took your (and others) advice and sent back the ACCEL 300+ ignition and opted for the TFI. There were some pretty good arguments. I still have some nylon nipples I bought to modify the stock cap like the Toyo but am wondering if that will work ok with the TFI coil. It should...since the object is to get ventilation in the cap for gasses? Anyway, that is another thread. I have to get the wires tailored and go pass a smog test for now.

I got the coil on, new spiral plug wires, and new plugs, AND new TFI dist. cap. It runs really smooth. It feels more stable. It ran pretty good before except for missing the smog HC by 65 and CO2 by 68 on hi RPM. I have a feeling that it will pass when I take it back. Did I say thanks? Yea, I guess I did.
