I am about to set my rebuilt 360/T18/D20 on the frame of my 79 J10. Question is I pulled the stock cam and timing set out and purchased a summit kit. Cam is 214/224. The crank gear has three keyways, 4 degree retard, standard, 4 degree advance. Here is the question, anyone tell me what I would gain by retarding the cam (I have assumed more low end torque) as apossed to the advanced keyway however I would like input on this. I have a performer intake and 1406 to run on this.

most guys i know run the cam strait up...as in 0 + or -. if you were really worried about it you could try calling summit and asking them, i think they have tech guys. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif I run a performer I think its 204/214 and its setup at zero, just fyi. runs good.

Yup, Summit does have tech guys, but I would rather get the answers from someone that actualy has this setup in a FSJ, feedback on the pros and cons if anyone has set the cam at other than 0 degrees. Thanks Matt W for your input on your setup.
