With the help of another lister (whose name I've of course forgotten) I learned how to clean out the heater box. Mice love it in there, so do leaves and pine needles. I believe heater vent air is drawn across the surface of the heater core, transferring engine heat to the air. If the core's blocked, the air ain't going nowhere. Remove the fan (four screws) and reach in there with your paw and start digging. My dog can show you how http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif If that doesn't work, see if you can pull the heater box apart and get to the gunk that way. Good luck! And remember, here in the Deep South daytime temps are still in the high 50s.

I had a similar problem about a month ago. When I checked the two heater hoses going to the heater core, I found one was hot and one was cold (they should both be hot). I took both heater hoses loose at the core, got an old garden hose and attached it to one of the heater hose fittings, and turned on the hose. A PO had apparantly gotten a little happy with the silicone sealer and some had gotten in the core. A large build up of pressure and boom, a large blob of silicone shot across the driveway. Great flow, good heat (until my transmission went south, but that's another story.)

Hey FSJNut...I moved here from Knoxville, my Dad and his fam still live there (Powell). I have taken much crap over the Vols' season...whaddya think for next year? Are there any good junk yards around the area, and if so where? I'll probably be passing through on my way to Virginia--that is, if I can get my CV joint and floor rust fixed first!

Baha......also you might just want to go ahead and replace the heater core...I got mine from NAPA for about $50....it is a simple install......and while you have it apart you can check for all the bird and mice stuff.........my heater rocks!!!!....I wish I lived in a cold area where it could be of use.........

Bignblue - Sorry to see a FSJ'r leaving the area. Wish I could help you on the Big Orange, but I am one of only a handful whose blood is not orange around here. Not that I am against the Big Orange mind you, just don't have an orange toilet seat.
As far as junk yards go, I have checked every one and have found a total of 2 FSJ's and they're pretty much stripped. According to what the Jeep dealers and junkyard owners tell me, if there is anything left of it at all it gets fixed. I did buy some parts from one of the junkyards listed on this site in the parts sources section called Marsh Auto Parts in North Carolina. When I asked James w/Marsh how many FSJ's he had he said "after that last 40 we got, it must be up around 180". I am planning a trip there next spring. He confirmed that thats not CJs, just FSJ's.

ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!
Depending on in what month you're planning on going, I should be out of school and I have friend in North Carolina..., around Charlotte/Kannapolis. Maybe all the Southeast FSJers can caravan up there and descend upon that yard like a horde of locusts...group buying power!

Sounds like some fun http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Can you imagine what 180 FSJ's in one junkyard (or anywhere for that matter)
would look like.
Isn't there another thread running about Junkyard Wars? . . . H m m m m m
Okay all you hot air blowing Full Sizers, I'm jealous.
The air out of my heater core is hot. The fan under the hood spins like crazy, as a matter of fact its alomost noisy when the switch is on max, but the hot air BARELY comes out of the vent?
It seems like the motor is pushing alot of air intom the heater core, but nothing comes out on the floorboard.
