You guys that have automatic trannies. Do any of you have a throttle positioner on your carb.to bring up the idle when you put it in gear? Apparently my wag. never came with one and I don't understand why. If the idle is set to keep the revs. up when it is in drive it is a little too high when in neutral so that it shifts with a bang into drive or reverse. I'm going to research and install one. ( vacuum actuated ) I thought I'd see what the gurus had to say first. I have the newly installed Avenger carb. and it did the same with the old carb. I'll make whatever mounting hardware necessary.

shouldnt be needed. if you set the idle to spec (on the amc 360 its 600 in drive) it only goes up 200 when in park or neutral. should be about the same with the 350. check to see that the idle speed is correct before you spend any cash.

A big V-8 that is otherwise healthy shouldn't need an idle kicker for the A/T. They usually came on smaller 80's gen. 4 cylinder and V-6 engines as kickers for A/C operation. Those smaller engines don't have the torque to run the A/C compressor at idle without some help.

On a 69 Wagon, or any pre-elecro controlled engine there was no real good
way to do this. I guess you could setup something along the lines of putting
a relay activated off the neutral sfty switch to activate/deactivate a anti diesle
solinoid. Sounds like a tough way to solve a non issue though.
What is your idle RPM set at ? it only has to be high enough at idle to keep
running maybe 650 RPM or so in drive.

Thanks for the input. I don't have a tach so I can't say for sure what the idle rpm is. I just know that the difference between neutral and drive makes it just a little too hard on the driveline when going into drive. I can adjust the idle down some more but then the idle is really borderline when in drive. I now have a cam in it too so that adds a little problem to the idle steadiness. I'll work it out one way or another. Thanks again.

True True with a hot cam this would be more of a problem as they won't
idle down, but the soulution make make for a interesting shift as loading
the engine and bumping the throttle all at the same time might make it
do an interesting BURP when going in/out of gear.
