Just for peace of mind... can anybody from a racing or Baja background give me some input on the strength issues of rims... the 39.5's I just were mounted on 18" deep[/] alluminum rims!!! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/eek.gif I told the guy "no thanks" even thought they fit without rubbing after he told me that I would need to bump my studs up to 9/16" for strength due to the offset.

I REALLY liked the way they looked but am afraid to go that wide, plus they are a b*tch to set the bead. I was thinking along the lines of a 12" min depth but want a 14" deep.

I am looking for a steel wheel, not aluminum. Eaton rims, Rock Crawlers are what I have looked at to present...I need a source for Bart rims... you know the ones used on the Modifieds and Sprint Cars? Can't find a good source.

Your collective comments on the stregnth issues are all appreciated as well as sources.

cool, thanks, ... have you used there sebsite.... unless I'm wrong or missing something... it requires you to have a catolag P/N in front of you (in your lap) to look something up?!?! How stupid is that.. if I had a catalog.... why would I be on their site!?!?!

Summit has a browse/search. Click on shop or store (don't remember which) on the far right of the menu along the top.

I agree with you Todd...summits online area has much to be desired.....it is just a replacement for the phone call, not very informative...

pick up a copy of "circle track and racing technology" magazine. you may even find a few competitors to Bart wheels.....on second thought stick with the Bart Wheels...I like their name!!!

on second thought, I will bring you a copy, I have dozens spread around the house(I have 3 bathrooms!)

9/16" studs?!?!?! those wheels will break/bend way before those studs will.....I have a little experience with rims.....If you are going to be doing any thrashing go with steel....unless you are going to step up and go with a WELD wheel or an Alcoa...

those 18" deep are OK for one of those Disco 4x4's...you know the ones with the 48 chrome shocks?

with that much offset...imagine the stress on the rim area where the round part meets the flat part during a corner?? then imagine the exponential stress increase when you hit a bump in a corner??? geez!.....I can imagine the guy trying to balance those wheels in a few thousand miles!

Baker,

DUH!!! thanks for the insight to summit's page...I feel like an idiot...anyway... I found the Bart wheels!!! Thanks again, Baker!!!

Now I know why I couldn't find them on the searches... they are mad by Clement Wheel Industries...I figured I would post this for anyone elses interest in good HD steel wheels.

they offer a wide varitey of sizes in powder coated white, black and chrome. they also list different thicknesses of steel used for specific sizes (more depth=thicker metal)

the ones I am getting are 15x14's in chrome for $125 ea. they also sell the beedlocks for their rims for around $50 a pair!!! Maybe in the future I will get the beelocks... they look REALLY TUF!! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
