here is a dumb Question Im puting my 1984 wagoneer back together.but I was wondering on the front diff next to the breather tube there is vacume lines and some kind of thing on the front cover .What is that does it leadback to transfer case or is it a factory locker.My freind has a 1987 wagoneer but his does not have it thanks I could use the help

I think you have one of the dana 44 front
axles that use vacuum to connect the two
half-axle shafts when using 4wd. It's not
really a "locker" in that you still have
an open front diff. It is to save you the
trouble of getting out and locking the front
hubs and at the same time reduce the drag
of turning when you don't need the front
axle to help propel the jeep. My "family"
car is a Toyota 4-Runner which uses the
same set up on the front IFS axle assy. It
seems to work fine. The factory service
maunuals have some info on the unit.
