When I went to start my 90GW this morning, I heard the starter try to engage for a fraction of a second and then all was dead. No light, radio, nothing. I poped the hood and sniffed around and found nothing. When I closed the hood and tried again it turned over and started like a champ. My battery terminals are clean. It happened once before and the problem was the fusible. I fixed that months ago. Any ideas?
Thanks
Jon

That happened to a rental car I had while I was in Alaska. Turned over briefly and then all was dead. Popped the hood. Everything looked clean. Caled the guy from the rental co. He came over adn tightened the bat cable clamp and all was well.
It sounds like a loose connection. When you slammed the hood, it may have made contact again, but the next vibration may break the current. Check the fuse link again too and hopefully you fixed whatever blew the link last time.

Even though the battery terms are clean they still could be loose enough to lose contact. Also check the connections at the solinoin as they have been known to work loose and cause the same problem.

87 and up have a troublesome Starter relay on the passenger fender. It will do exactly what you describe as well as set you on FIRE!!! I have a BBQ 89 from that. This relay will be where the Positive Batery cable runs from the battery to it, all power runs through it. It is a small rectangle box, bunch of wires hooked to it. ;)

Also, look to see where your ground wire is attached, and that it is at LEAST a 4ga.

On mine, the PO attached a 6 ga ground cable straight to the A/C compressor. Too small of a cable and ground through an aftermarket pot metal compressor case just doesn't get it ! That was part of the reason he wanted to get rid of it.

Thanks for the good help. I won't be looking for a needle in a haystack of wires this weekend.
Thanks,
Jon
