How much per mile did you pay?
Did you use an escrow service?
Would you do it again?
I think the odds of me doing this are rather small, but I might consider it for a 75 or earlier Wagoneer in good shape. Gotta love CA smog laws.

I had it shipped, I put in for bids on-line. I kept getting an email from a trucker...supposedly! Everyone else was $600 + he said his truck was full and had one empty spot coming from where I bought it...he'd do it for $400:confused:
Yeah, I bit on it...turns out he's a booking agent for shippers. He tells the real truckers he's paying top dollar for quick pick-up on the internet. It got here and the guy wouldn't take it off the truck until I paid $600. If I didn't pay, he would drop it in a storage lot for $40 daily fee.
I had a written contract for estimated delivery charge $400....VISA backed him saying the national truckers laws permitted the Charge unless I had a Guaranteed Bill of Lading.
I know the ropes on this...Don't ask me how I know:banghead: :banghead: Experience is a painful teacher, you get the test before the lesson.

I have bought two cars that way. The one from Tennessee cost about $700, and the one from Arizona cost about $1000. I used a brokerage (Bravo Transport), and they quoted me a flat price, not by the mile. Half up front and half on delivery. I did not use an escrow service - the purchase was separate from the transport. Again? Sure - but I need another car like I need a hole in the head.

In 2007 I paid around $800 to ship (door-to-door) an operational J-20 from Arizona to Arkansas using DAS. In 2010 I paid $800 for a non-operational Cherokee from Arizona to Arkansas using a broker 'Webster Services'. I have a posting from 2010 on that whole process:

Check out different shippers they can give you a free quote and send you a confirmation # with the cost. Don't go for the lowest or highest, find something in between and also find out how long it will take for pick up and delivery! Can range from 3 days to whenever if your not careful.

I had my inop '71 shipped from MT to MI for $1400 last year. I used u-ship and went with a company with a lot of feedback that was priced a few hundred more than the lowest with little feedback. It was delivered 3 days after it was picked up and picked up 2 days after I decided on the shipping/broker. I would do it again if I need to

I paid 500$ to one chick who took her pick-up truck and a trailer and went from Chicago,IL to Shelby township, MI, checked the title and other paper work with the PO of my rig, loaded it on the trailer and went back to Chicago:D
Its fun to arrange such things from my bed in a small village in the Czech republic. You gotta love this century:thumbsup:

I've used Dependable Auto Shippers to ship my FSJ twice and had no issues, very professional folks and competitive pricing. We used a booking agent once and it was a total PITA, DAS is worth a few more bucks...

I've shipped quite a few vehicles using transport companies and have been satisfied. www.trustytransport.com (http://www.trustytransport.com) is my top choice, and they are usually under everyone. They are a broker, and get really good rates and cover the vehicle with insurance during the process. I've also used www.uship.com (http://www.uship.com) a few times with good results as well.
A few pointers:
make sure to be reasonable with the dates if you want a good rate
make sure to check the feedback of the shipper being used
make sure to ask all questions before shipping (ie: is this a guaranteed rate, or a variable rate)
ask what recourse you have if a dispute arises
make sure to check if they are insured / bonded / etc.
make sure your new purchase is covered by insurance
find out if your vehicle will have to be moved on / off the trailer during the shipment, as if it is moved, the chances for damage get
find out if you can pay with a credit card (to get protected should a problem arise)
If you do those things, you should be fine.
