If this has been left to open air can it be re-used.

As far as I know it can be, they vac the system out before charging anyhow. I think its the dryer that is supposed to get changed out.

As long as a lot of dirt or road grime hasn't got in there you should be OK.

Simply pulling a vac on a condenser will not clean it out. AC shops have a flushing solvent to get all the oil and grime out. It won't adversely affect the refrigerant if you have some left in there either. It cost $20 for mine to be flushed. Also you MUST put a new drier/filter in after any AC system service. In your case you have to replace it or run the risk of toasting your compressor. They aren't that expensive, just a PITA to get to and get in and out. Be careful with any connections to the condenser as the condener is aluminum and bends/breaks/leaks easy.
