View Full Version : Buick 350 - Correct Carb
Is there a decent Buick site out there or does someone know the correct carb that should be on this engine? What's on there now doesn't look original, (base plate is smaller size). Right now it is sporting a Rochester 2V, R-2 Model 2GV, numbers are -
7043105
134 3 8M

That carb you have is from a '73 Chevy Camaro or C-10, K-10 or P-10 truck with the 307 V-8 engine mated to a manual transmission.
The 2GV's installed in the Kaiser-era Buick motors would be:
#7028088- 1968
If yours is a '68, the carb you have would be a fine replacement, as it would have the same #7008650 main jets as the above carb.
There is no listing for a '68-specific Kaiser truck, but if Rochester was true-to-form, it would have been a #70298088. Often the same number carried over in non-GM applications if there were no other changes.
The other carbs listed for the Buick motors used by Kaiser all used #7008660 jets, and were numbered as follows:
#7040482
#7040484
#7041184
There is no distinction between year or application for these carb numbers, but I'm guessing the first two were for the 1970 trucks, and the last was for the '71 FSJ's.
You neglected to mention the year of your truck. Either way, the carb is probably close enough to get you by. It was probably a rebuilt carb exchanged at some point for the original during the life of your truck.
The correct carb 'is' a 2GV. Whether yours is 'the' carb that came on it originally is prolly suspect but a 2GV belongs there. Be happy...it's a no-brainer to rebuild and tune, works great, lasts forever. I've run them on anything from early Chev V8's and inline sixes to Toyota Land Cruisers. Love'd every one of'em smile.gif
Bob Barry,
Sorry about the missing year, that info used to be in our member info at the bottom, I keep forgetting they took it out. The Wag is a '70 with the TH400. Thanks for the info.
-joe,
Same here, I have had several RP 2GV's and agree they are quite painless. Thanks.

The 2GV and 2GC for that matter are both decent and simple carbs. Almost as simple as the Motorcraft 2150. If your really dying for a stock replacement, my local yard has a near bone stock '67 with what appears to be the factory carb on it and it even has the parts tag still attached. The motor is Buick 350. The carb was there this afternoon anyway. Let me know if you can't live without it.

P.S. Thanks for the help with the welding. Things are going good here.
davez26,
No don't put yourself out, I have an auto shop teacher just down the hallway, with a large pile of carbs to pick through. Shouldn't a '67 be the 327?
OK need more help on this.
All intown shops have the kit listed as an
NIE 6888499
but show it as unavailable.
Do we know any online sources for carb kits?

Tadsal, I was surprised those are so hard to get? So I called my local parts shops(small mom-n-pop burg).
NAPA should carry them(they do here) it's Echlin p/n 2-5550 at $17.87
If that won't work in AZ you can call WestBay Auto Parts up here in Port Townsend, WA 360.385.3476. They don't have them in stock but show the kit as avail. They can't check for sure today since it's Sat and the warehouse is closed(small town) but you can call them Monday if needed. They carry the Borg-Warner kits p/n 10403 at $14.99
Maybe you can x-ref the Napa and B-W numbers locally or try the above options. Good luck.
Thanks -joe, I really meant that, having my carb torn apart, with no kit, really stinks, will try that tomorrow am.

Tadsal save yer dinero and send me yer address. I got the kit in the garage but never used it cause I went to the edelbrock with the t/a manifold - a well spent 500$. I also have the carb too ##7040142 0340KE1. Their yers if ya want em and the airpan cover with the "dauntless 350 " emblem on it too. Couldn't bring myself to remove em from the parts system - if ya know what I mean.
RdHawg, you got a private message.

agreed...the T/A manifold was well worth the cash, but I don't like my rochester 4v(and don't tell me to rebuild it Bob ;) !). i can't decide between holley/edylbrock(sp?). anyway, i have a stock carb that came with a 70 350 i could part with. in good running condition too......
LRRH, nice to know I'm not the only person up right now. I'm looking at the TA manifold also for the future, or at least some stock Buick 4V. Hang onto your carb for now, I have a temporary replacement that will get me by.
Seems like only yesterday I'd get a kit for these GM/Rochester 2V's, the kits were about $5, and they covered about 2 dozen carbs. Time marches on.
HAHA!! I haven't gone to bed yet.....
seems funny, i found the rebuild kit for my rochester at the local parts store for cheap. that was 2 years ago though......

When my '69 carb puked late at night I figured I'd pull the '70 one and install it. 30 minutes later I realized they have a different bolt pattern. The moral of the story "never trust a Jeep part swap from year to year".
