I have had my holley on for over a year and im very tired of constant "seasonal" tuning...i am thinking of reverting back to the stock 1974 401's 4bbl..if i can get a good one...i know there are guys who run those motorcraft with an edlebrock intake and that is what i wanna do...my questions are what is the cfm on the stock unit?, will this carb flow a fairly modified 401?,will it work with my carb spacer? ALSO i am talking about the 1974 and ealier version NOT the later 4bbl version, i dont want one of those thanks alot

I don't know much about the Motorcraft carb, but I would like to say that I have never had to do "seasonal tuning" on any of my Holley carbs. Personally, I think you'd be much better off sticking with the Holley.

While my Holley isn't ideal, it does run pretty well under all conditions, from 0ºF to 100ºF. It did take a while to get the choke setting just right, so that it started under all conditions.

What jets are you running?

i run 69 in the warm seasons and 65 in winter and fall..i also swap sec. springs...it runs fine with the changes but i just don't want to keep doing that...choke works great all year

I built mine 5 years ago, spent a little time setting it up and haven't touched it since. Why are you changing jets and springs? If it was mine I'd keep the Holley. If you wind up going to a different carb let me know if you want to sell your Holley.

Basicly i want power.. no power in the summer with 65's.. power with 69's..and visaversa in the winter..i wont comprimise power...it is probably me, not the carb..i just want "good" year round power..i guess this is a moot point..if i can find a very good rebuildable pre'75 motorcraft i may sell the holley thanks

The Holley is the easiest to tune by far, and is very, very reliable.

The quadrajet is the best of the three and harder to dial in than the Holley. It is as reliable as the Holley. This would be my pick.

The Motorcrap carb tries to act operate like a quadrajet but just never got it. Parts are hard to come by and dialing them in the hardest of the 3.

I have experience with all 3 of them and never could dial in a Motorcrap like I could the others.
If I was lazy, I would always go with the Holley because they are so easy to tune, but when you get the Quadrajet right, that is the only way to go.

I have been very happy with the Motorcraft 4300 series 4V carbs. I don't rebuild them myself, but have a mechanic who does, and they have always worked flawlessly.

One question on the holley, is it a double pumper? If it is, then that's your problem.
