Typically these rubber seals were glued in , either in the factory or at some time that they were reapaired by the PO. You may just want to call a glass shop that will come and do it on site and tell them what you want to do. without the cost of the glass, it shouldn't be too expensive.
There should be a rubber seal and a chrome molding, and i believe the molding acts a the lock strip on the seal.

otis81WT,
Could you please describe the install for me, I just picked up my windshield gasket today and have forgoten most of the good advise I got on the board here. (Sorry folks, I now it was valuable info you sent, I just have a short attention span right now).

The biggest thing to remember is that the top of the windshield goes in first! Use lots of soapy water and a stout string (I use 1/8" nylon rope)and work slowly and carefully. Good luck.

i just went and put one in my j20 last week after them quoting me $435 for a new windshield and seal ("oh no sir we cant use your old seal and junk yard windshild, and could you please unbucle your pants and grab your ankles")
i used 2 of the cheap suction cup dent pullers stuck on to it and it made it insainly easy to lift into place, chased out the seal usinf 14ga ingnition wire and then silicones the cr@p out of it before pushing the locking strip back in place "just to be safe" it went so easy i was expecting to crack it in half when putting back on the rear veiw mirror or something

This is how I did it...(except w/o the sealer stuff)and I reused the old seal(I would think a new seal probaly is a LOT TIGHTER)
I just pressed the seal into the window opening, making sure it was as tight as I could get it by hand, then make sure the seal lock is disengaged(a dull butter knife works well)just run the knife around the seal making sure the seal overlaps all the way around, once you have that done I inserted the window(I started on drivers side)top corner first, then I used a piece of wood and GENTLY pryed between the window and windshield wiper post,I did this slowly on each top corner while using a tool(I had a pocket knife with a bottle opener/screwdriver that worked like a charm!!!!!)to make sure the seal dosent get caught on the window,I just slid the opener along the window to make sure, once the window is up as far as possible just start on the sides and work down and around,.....once you get to the bottom I had some trouble but found that if you get the seal out from the bottom about a foot or so from the bottom corners and stick a 3-4 inch piece of fuel line hose in at that point on each side, you can start SLOWLY(this part took the longest)to get the seal out from under the window, then once you get the seal out the whole bottom length remove the hoses and just lock the seal around the window(with the bottle opener thing)and thats the way I did it......
Sorry if it doesnt help but thats what I did and wasn't as bad as I had thought.

GDoc, I bet the reason theysaid all that was because they didn't want to warranty the installation on account of the used parts. Wonder if they would have reduced the price if you had offered to skip the guaratee??
From otis81WT <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>I would think a new seal probaly is a LOT TIGHTER<hr></blockquote>Might be, I'm hoping a new seal is more flexable though.
