Hi:

My shift quadrant (P R D 2 L) was missing its shift pointer. I was given a replacement, and cannot figure out how to attach it. My shop manual does not have a very good picture of the steering column to understand how it clips on.

The point where it is to attach has a clip, but I cannot see how to do it. Anyone got a picture handy or good at describing how to do it?

Thanks

You need to take off the PRND2L part. there is a Clip you need to pull out the get that off. Then I assume your old pointer is broke off you will need to get that piece out then press in your replacement put the PRND2L part back on..... DONE!! ;) 5 min job :D

It did not have a pointer. I removed the P R N D 2 L part, and cannot figure out how to secure the new pointer....maybe something else is missing.
I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it.

The only way for the pointer to come off is to be broken off, or the factory forgot to put it on! So you will need to follow the instruction I have outlined in above post, the pointer just slides into the boss on the column, but old piece needs to be removed.

Not sure about a 86, but I think they are all the same. The pointer hooks under the bottom, back side of the indicator. So install the pointer, then slide it out and hook it to the lower back side as you install the indicator.

they are not the same. i ran into this too. if your 86 has the newer dashboard, the shift indicator is different. the one from an 84 didnt fit my 88. they are close but they dont interchange. some engineer came up with a way to save a penny on the assembly and they went with it.
