Will the front driveshaft on a '74 Wagoneer need to be lengthened to work with a 4'5" lift? My buddy has a '82 Wag with a 3" lift and his ended up being a couple inches too short. What should I expect to shell out for this sort of opperation (the longer driveshaft)?

But, seriously, with my SOA lift of ~ 8", I had my front shaft lengthened by about 2" for a cost of ~$80. If you assume that the driveline is the hypotenuse of a right triangle you can see that a vertical lift has a small but significant effect on your proper driveline length. smile.gif

$80 is a good ballpark for just making it longer, if you're gonna get new joints on there toss in about $15 each, if you want it balanced add another $20. Fron't don't really need to be balanced (IMHO) since you're not spinning it that fast. This is one of those thing you won't really know till you are done, take some measurments now, and compare to when you are done.
My '70, which sits 4" higher than a stock '86 only slid the shaft back about 1/2". With both wheels hanging free in the air (which better not happen while driving) I still have plenty of spline contact so I didn't bother with it.
