I was wondering if anybody has swapped springs from a junkyard onto their fsj. I want to end up with about 4" of lift. I have a great welder, can relocate spring mounts no problem. Was jut wondering if anybody had any ideas what type of truck I should pull the springs off of if i go this route. I was thinking of just buying a 4" lift for simplicity but have a new garage with a full truck/auto lift, air tools, aka the "monster garage" and it just sounds like more fun to do it the hard way. what do you guys think? would i get better performance from a "stock" off the shelf bolt on? I am also going to go SOA. Thanks in advance for you input

Also just an update on this project  "safari wagon"
after rebuilding the carburator the engine just purrs.. :D ,this was a releif since we had never cranked the engine before..ripped off all the smog garb, live an alabama and don't have to have it :D ..transmission seems ok, still have to hook up the vacum to check the 4wd..headers being ordered monday, should be on by the weekend..I'll try to post some pics of the progress, by the end of the week...we will be going toppless, and now plan on being able to reatach the top at will..friends with a body man that's pumped about the project. I feel like a kid at christmas!!!

Please keep us posted. I am in the design stage of my own remodel of my 84 and I am not against copying something I like. TIA

There is a post floating around here about using rear MJ (that's a Jeep Comanche) springs on the rear of SJs to gain around 4" of lift.

You can flip the shackle-hanger over so the shackle faces down and gain quite a bit of lift depending on where you weld it back onto the frame.

You can use Chevy shackles as lift-shackles up front.

Chevy front axles are already set up for SOA, but they're considerably wider than the Jeep axles. (about 5" wider)

There are a lot of ways you can lift your Jeep by rearranging the suspension instead of replacing it. That's actually why I decided to buy an SJ in the first place.
