I'm looking for 16"x7" rims(8 on 6.5") to mount 265/80R16 Super Swampers on, except all the rims I find are only rated around 2100lbs-2200lbs. The tires can handle over 3000 lbs. Anybody know who makes steel rims with a higher load capacity.

Check this web page out. They offer a wide variety of wheels for off-roading. The American Eagle 589's showed a detailed chart of load ratings. Other wheels were not as detailed but I bet if you called they could quote you some more info.

Jim2928 .. You didn’t indicate what kind of jeep you are building. Are you building an 8000lb jeep? I did't think the ‘wheel ratings’ were to include the tires and wheels. So you would subtract the weight of the tires and wheels from the ‘up’ weight of the jeep. The actual ‘curb’ weight of my ’76 wagoneer is 4995lbs and the gross (maximum total load) is 6200lbs Jeeps with a rating of 6800lbs gross or more used 8 lug wheels. There was a J-20 model in ’81 with a gross rating of 8400lbs
Good Luck.. ;) ds..

Don, I actually have my eye on a J20, right now. For now I'm driving a non-jeep vehicle that is also 3/4 ton. I'm looking at the front max weight and rear max weight. The gross is 7500 lbs, but the rear max is 5200 lbs and the front is 3500 lbs. So I could have the ability to exceed the wheel ratings in the rear if say the majority of the weight ended up over the rear wheels or even further back(which would be the case with long lumber). I've visited numerous wheel manufacture web sits and still 2200lbs is the max for a steel wheel.

2200 is the max rating according to the manufacterer so they don't get sued when you throw 5 tons on them! I'm sure they will handle a lot more when you occasionally go over the "limit." After all a donut spare says "Do Not exceed 50 mph" and I had mine up to 90 with no probs! The owner's manual also recommends you check your oil, trans fluid, washer fluid, antifreeze, tire pressure, etc everytime you take out your vehicle... do you do that?

Some might argue that safety is the utmost priority but remember the manufacturer's logic/point of view. Good Luck!

Pete, I think your right. I just checked the load limit of the 15x10s I have now, 1500lbs and I know for a fact I've had almost 4000lbs in the back of the truck(have a scale at work). I'm going to go with the American Racing white wagon wheels and thr 265/80R16 Super Swampers. Thanks,
