While driving I can hear a clanking or clicking noise that gets quicker as my truck goes faster. It seems to be coming from the front drivers side wheel. Turning doesn't seem to have an effect on the noise. Any thoughts experts?

possibly the wear bar on the l/f brake pads. id look there really quick. 10$ for pad/1/2hr job vs 100$ /2hr+ job if you wait til its metal to metal.

Even worse could be axle CV or one of those joints up there? I hope not...

Brake pads were just checked so its not that. I thought a bad cv joint made noise during sharp turns? This noise is while driving straight as well as turning.

I'd check your spindle bearings.....
Sometimes they get ignored, the axle-shaft/spindle-bearing seals break down, and they start to rust....

Do you have locking hubs? If so, are they the originals?
If they are, buy new Warn hubs, the old factory locking hubs have a bearing assembly in them that can go too, which is what was causing the clicking noise in our front wheels....

But it'd be a good idea to check your spindle bearings anyways, and while your in there, replace the axle u-joints.

I'm pretty sure they are the original locking hubs. I'm in no position to do the work myself at the moment. Any guess at what this will cost me to have done?

i was quoted over $500 for the u-joints, bearings and labor.....

turned out to be just over $100 doing it myself.

but in the end it turned out that it was the hubs causing the noise, $70 for new Warn hubs and 10 minutes solved that. no kidding smile.gif

It's really not that hard to do, getting the spindles off may take some swearing and beating, but nothing too hardcore.

i've got some pics if you want to see what's involved.

If you have the Hubs unlocked and the T-Case in 2 wheel drive, you can rule out, the U-joints in front driveshaft as well as the axle joints and spindle bearings. Not of these components turn when in 2 wheel drive. Check the dust shield behind the rotors, sometimes they rust or break off and rattle around in the back of the rim.

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO STRAT CRAZYJEEPMAN. IT DOES SOUND LIKE SOMETHING IS RATTLING AROUND IN THERE. OR IF IT IS THE HUBS I CAN DEAL WITH THAT THANKS!
