I found a hose that connects to the top of the front diferential that goes up into the engine. Trouble is, it's hanging down and I don't know where it's suppose to attach. It's a 90 GW and it's a California car. Is it some type of wacky emmisions thing? The rig still shifts into 4wd or so it seems. The light comes on anyway.
Thanks for your help.

I think it's just the breather tube...

Sounds like it's just the vent line. Is it just a piece of vacuum hose with a small fitting that goes into the diff? If that's it it's just a vent and should be attached somewhere that it will stay out of water/dirt/etc.

The end of the front axel breather tube is usually attached to the side of the radiator on the drivers side.....at least that's where mine is.
Good luck,
