I have a 1979 j10 truck with no spark. I have changed the stator and the ignition module. The coil is good and has current when the switch is on. Can anyone give me a detailed test prcedure for what wire should be hot? I have also used an ohm meter to test the wires from the module to the stator. Please help I am at a loss.

you prolly have a bad pick up in the dist. You can test it by unplugging the dist plug and hooking up an analog (the cheap kind with a needle not the digital ones) to the orange and purple and set the meter to the lowest volt setting (should be 2 volts). Have someone crank the motor over and if the pick up is good the needle will move every time the dist is supposed to fire. If this is good check for power at the red and lt blue wires at the ign box. The red will only have power when the motor is cranked, the light blue should have power when the key is on. One last thing, take the dist cap off and make sure the rotor turns when the motor is cranked. I have seen sheared pins in dist gears, and even really wore out timing chains cause problems blamed on bad ign boxes.

Red/white wire to coil should be hot when key in start or run. Light blue wire on two prong ign box plug should be should be hot with key in start. Red/white wire on two prong plug hot in start or run. To check the dist pick up coil, measure resistance between purple and orange wires at the 4 prong ign box connector. 400-800 ohms. Have you checked to see if the connection at the starter solenoid is good? I'm pretty sure the light blue wire is attached to one of the small side posts on the starter solenoid. Mine used to be really loose 'til I took a pair of needle nose to 'em :D And with that thing loose, it wouldn't start and I did have juice to coil and such. Good luck.
