Okay, can't help myself on this one. Isn't it cold enough up there?

At my shop, I charge as follows:

$55.00 - 1.00 hour of shop labor for basic service, plus an additional $27.50/0.5 hours for leak checking. I don't warranty the service without leak checking.

$89.89 - R12 refrigerant. Your system holds 36 ounces, or 2.25 lbs., of R12 refrigerant, for which I charge $39.95/lb.

Subtrace $24.95/lb. for any refrigerant that is recovered from your vehicle during the service. The fancy RobinAir machine at the shop gives a digital readout of the amount of refrigerant recovered. It's usually a tiny amount, like 0.21 lbs., but it makes the invoice look a bit better to the customer.

Don't know what Canadian sales tax is, but here in Franklin County, Ohio, USA, it's 5.75%. So if your system is completely empty to begin with, you'd be looking at a total bill of US$182.30.

I just saw a kit for $30 at BJ's wholesale club here in Baltimore. I thought this was a pretty easy do-it-yourself project according to the directions on the kit....

I was thinking of going that route myself once I get the fan working to see how hot the air coming out is.

Your local auto parts store will probably have a kit for around $30. A shop is more expensive, but involves a lot less headache.

How hard is it to add the coolant to your system. My AC runs cool but not cold. There are bubbles in the site glass on my 89 and I need maybe one can of R-12 which I found at of all places, Advance Auto for $29.95 a can.

How do I put the stuff in?

My brother mentioned R406A when I ask him if he could check my A/C.He said it is compatible with R12 and can be used as a drop in or top off.Unfortunatly he had to go in the hospital so I'm not going to bother him with trivial stuff. But I do need to do something with mine as I have a trip to Michigan the end of this month. It still works, but is low as i have my low pressure switch jumped for the time being. Please opinions and also those who have used Freeze12:1 How well does your system perform with it;2Where do you buy Freeze12.I've asked the parts people around me and the just shrug thier shoulders.I really don't want to go R134 unless I have to.
