I just bought a 1981 J10 but it has an older amc car 258 in it. Everthing was dicconected and I am going to run the vac advance and the EGR. The way I understandit is, going to the CTO is 1 ported vac line and one manifold vac line. And the vac advance and Egr are hooked up to the other side. So at start up, the advance and egr are getting a manifold vav, then after it reaches a certain temp, the cto switches over to the ported vac. Does that sound about right? If so does anyone have a cto pic with the valves labled? Thanks for any help, Dennis
What year is the motor? The smog lash up varies greatly over the years.
Get the code off the block on the right side/top just below the head and go to the tech section/engines/ etc and translate the code to get the year.

Well the top has an E space then 82. Then below that is 205013. Then below that is 63244. Looking at the tech page, I cant make nothing of these #'s.
Ya lost me Dennis?
There are no upper/lower numbers(?)...just one horizontal 6 digit number with the 4th digit actually being a letter.
I think you're looking in the wrong place. It's on the block(pass side), just below the head(not valve cover) stamped onto a pad just forward of the distributor. You may need a rag and some gaso etc to clean it of, the numbers are stamped not cast so the may be covered in gunk.

Well after looking again, that is the only # there. No letters either. I know this engine came out of an AMC car, maybe thier car #'s are different? Thanks Dennis
