Wow... Nice Christmas present for sure!
Welcome from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
My son Nathan (age 15, will be 16 in a few days) and I are working on a 1982 J10 project together.
The idea is for him to drive it someday.
Being 15 years old, I am sure you will have a lot of questions...
(goodness, I a 3 times your ages and I have a lot questions)
...just feel free to question.
I would recommend that you use the search if possible, as the chances will very high that any question you might have as been asked before and answered with pictures and diagrams.
Yes, the search function on the forum here stinks, but try it first and maybe you will be surprised at what you get.
Here are some words from TexTJ209 about another, better way to search:
A tip for those who don't know, go to Google, type in this:
"search term" site:ifsja.org
Obviously replacing "search term" with whatever you're searching for.
Blows the normal forum search out of the water.
Example:
SOA swap site:ifsja.org
Gives you this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1259&bih=826&q=soa+swap +site%3Aifsja.org&oq=soa+swap+site%3Aifsja.org&aq= f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=31l4719l0l4859l23l20l0l 15l15l0l437l796l3-1.1l2l0

Also, I would recommend taking the time to fill out your profile to include your location.
Once we know where you are located, then maybe other forum members close by could come over and offer some advice, lend a hand, trade/swap.give parts to you and your Dad.
We have a several members here from eastern Michigan.
Three or so times a year, some of usI get together in Toledo, OH at Z&M Jeeps for a M&G (Meet and Greet)
We look at other folks rigs, get ideas and advice to work on our own projects, buy some parts from Zack (the owner of Z&M Jeeps and host of our M&G) and then go eat wings at Frickers or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Welcome to the group. Always good to see some of the younger crowd get into these old rigs. Hope you and your dad enjoy working on it. Enjoy spending the time with him. Even if you dont realize it now, you will treasure it as time well spent later in life.
NOS is New Old Stock, or something to that effect. Basically unused original parts that have been in storage or something all this time.
Search, and ask questions if you need something, the people here are VERY helpful and courteous. Maybe post up what your plans are for this rig (specs in your sig helps too) so we have an idea what you are looking to do. Suggestions for a DD (Daily Driver), or weekend warrior may be a lot different than for an off-road only, or show rig.

Well I guess my son is a member on here too. LOL . A little background on him. He has been wrenching with me since age 11 . When he was 12 we were swaping engines in the wife's xj and I threw my back out. I finished installing the new motor himself with me coaching from the sidelines. Since then he has become a big gearhead and a very good wrench.
The cherokee is a 1979 narrow track .I picked it up thinking it would make a good tow rig for my xj. Needless to say my son has staked claim to it.
