I've used both rubber and cork. Either set will work provided they are of good quality and not over tightened.
Cork works just fine. Don't smear them up with RTV/silicone etc. Make sure the area around the bolt holes in the covers isn't dished. If they are flatten the area out before using and then don't over tighten them.

Personally I like the ones Felpro has in their gasket kits. It's the black rubber type gaskets. I have a set on my 360 that put on last Feb. I used no silicone or RTV tightened them once and they haven't leaked yet.

Thanks fellas....another Q is :
what the correct # lb. ft torque the bolts should be tightened too?
Note: not "ft-lb" but rather 50 "in-lb".

I agree with AMX factor. Used the FelPro rubber gaskets that came with the kit and have not had a single valve cover leak.
